2nd Annual Immersion Weekend @ Hocking Hills Logan, Ohio October 25th-27th 2013

This fall join us for an exciting weekend in conjunction with Ohio University staff and students.  We will be renting three cabins and enjoying nature as we converse along the trail.  There will be wine tasting, paella, empanadas, ginkana, and a SLO/IPA roundtable.  We will be giving certificates for 20 contact hours for CEUs. William Langley AATSP-Buckeye Chapter’s New President-Elect

We are pleased to announce our newest member of the Executive Board of AATSP-Buckeye Chapter William Langley.  William Langley has been involved in the Buckeye Chapter of AATSP since 2012 and has served as the Student Representative for the chapter. He grew up in New Paris, Ohio until moving to Oxford for school. He has studied at Miami University and will receive a BA in Spanish as well as a BS in Spanish Education. He has a desire to thoroughly incorporate technology into the classroom as he finishes his semester of student teaching at Richmond High School in Richmond, Indiana. William studied at the National University of Costa Rica.  While there, he developed a rich cultural background. William’s past experiences include teaching English as a second language, and studies in coffee production. His interests include second language acquisition theory, teaching pedagogy, and collaborating with teachers from different languages and content areas.

OFLA April 10th 2014  AATSP/Columbus Crew Excursion

During the Thursday sessions we will tentatively offer a cultural opportunity to see the Columbus Crew practice at the stadium and then get to talk to football stars from Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Venezuela and Costa Rica. BGSU AP Seminar with Parthena Draggett June 24-June 27 2013 Bowling Green, Ohio

Lisa Stankavich (Sylvania Southview HS) and I were in attendance for a seminar given by Parthena Draggett (Massillon-Jackson HS).  We made thematic units for use in the classroom.  We shared our units with the attendees and discussed the new format changes to the AP Spanish exam.

AATSP National Presentations July 7-11 2013 San Antonio, Texas

Dr. Martha Castañeda (Miami of Ohio), Parthena Draggett and Cortney Bird (Olentangy Liberty HS) presented sessions at the AATSP national conference for the first time.

Cortney Bird and Dr. Martha Castañeda presented a session on – Designing an immersion weekend for language and cultural development.  Dr. Castañeda also presented – Enhancing Spanish language skills through digital storytelling.  Parthena Draggett  addressed the topic – Tablas de noticias: Using authentic resources for thematic learning of language and culture. Finally  Parthena Draggett and Cortney Bird  discussed – Oral communication in the #IOS+Android@Web 2.0 world.   It was a great time to connect with colleagues and their families. There was time to visit the missions of San Antonio and other historic sites.

Proposal Deadline: Friday, November 15, 2013 for sessions or workshops.  There may be scholarships available for first time attendees of $500 to offset the cost of going to the conference.
