What a Conference! What a Fun-filled Friday Evening!

Award Recipients Honored Before Dancing Began

Roz for OFLA 2011-2012 V2Roz Terek, Immediate Past President
French Teacher, Poland Seminary High School

All who attended this year’s conference will agree, I am certain, that we spent an amazing three days together! As the executive officers arrived on Wednesday, the excitement was obvious in all we did. Never before have so many attendees registered for our Thursday workshops, and never before have so many attended the conference. It was truly one of the best I have attended! I would like to thank Teri Wiechart for her hard work in planning the great event, and for changing the scheduling of sessions, workshops and festivities.

Friday evening began with the Awards Banquet and ended with the “really rocking” President’s Reception! I applaud the change from an Awards Luncheon to an Awards Banquet. How fitting to have an elegant and relaxing time to honor our awards recipients. The planning done by Richard Emch, Teri Wiechart and The Meeting Connection made this event work.

And then, the dancing began at the President’s Reception. What fun the dancers had learning the steps to the lively dances. If you attended and did not dance, you saw the enthusiasm in the faces of the dancers; you enjoyed, as well, the camaraderie of colleagues and friends at the end of a long day.

Surprised Reactions from Prize-Winners

With many donations from our generous vendors, the President’s Reception ended with a drawing much to the delight of the audience. As in the past few years, Mark Himmelein, Tarah Loken-Smith and I conducted the raffle. As Mark announced the name of each winner, their reactions were priceless! They literally came running down to collect their loot! What fun we all had as the evening ended. Here are the winners of the many donations from our vendors.

I wish you all a great ending to the school year. Enjoy the summer! Take time to relax, to refresh your skills and to renew your enthusiasm for teaching. I look forward to seeing you at Kalahari next year!
