Milton Alan Turner, OFLA Immediate Past President
Saint Ignatius High School
This year OFLA recognizes one educator and two friends of world languages as our 2020 Award Winners. Gary DiBianca of Orange High School was named the Leona Glenn Award Winner for Outstanding Language Teacher and State Senator Kristina Roegner and former State Representative Sarah LaTourette were named the Non-Educator Friends of World Languages.
Gary has had a distinguished teaching career teaching Spanish first at the Andrews School and currently at Orange High School. He is a presenter at state, regional and national conferences. Gary has served as an AP Reader and has served as a member of the Ohio Model Curriculum Writing Team.
Senator Kristina Roegner and Representative Sarah LaTourette were recognized for their efforts in supporting and passing legislation for Ohio’s Seal of Biliteracy. Their interest in the global education of Ohio’s students has been demonstrated by their tenacity in leading the way for the legislation for the creation of the Seal. They provided a platform for teachers, administrators and students to advocate for Ohio students being recognized for demonstrating high levels of proficiency.
Unfortunately, we were unable to honor this year’s recipients at this year’s conference. However, our winners will be recognized next year at the 2021 Awards Ceremony.
