Record Breaking Attendance and Reviews

Hi, Everyone!

Thank you all!  After many months of diligent planning by the combined CSCTFL Conference Team and the OFLA Conference Committees, I am pleased to say that we surpassed our goal of 1000 attendees at this year’s conference. And what a conference it was! The work done by the planning team and the OFLA volunteers was remarkable. The Keynote Address by Terry Caccavale and the combined CSCTFL/OFLA Awards Program inspired all who attended. The workshops and sessions were thought-provoking in their topics and sent us back to our classrooms with renewed enthusiasm.

My personal thanks go to CSCTFL Executive Director Patrick Raven, Program Chair Leann Wilcoxen and OFLA Local Arrangements Chair Sarah Shackelford for their dedication in making this conference such a success. In addition to their work, Barb Andrews, Immediate Past Chair; Carol Eiber, Hospitality Chair; Teri Wiechart, Registration Chair; Mary Goodwin, Raffle Chair and Cheryl Johnson, Photography Chair did an amazing job of securing volunteers to help with the numerous tasks required to allow a smooth running conference to be delivered to all who attended. This year’s OFLA Board Members were joined by OFLA members who volunteered to help in any way and who all played an integral part in the success of the conference. Thank you all for your dedication to both CSCTFL and OFLA!

What More Could We Ask For?

The conference venue, the newly-opened Hilton Columbus Downtown, was outstanding and provided a relaxing atmosphere as colleagues gathered for the big event. The weather was perfect, and the Friday night galas were a hit! The Advisory Council Reception on Thursday evening was filled to capacity as Lisa Lilley encouraged members to attend and to submit proposals for the 2014 CSCTFL Conference in St. Louis, Missouri.

As the conference drew to a close on Saturday evening, CSCTFL’s Patrick Raven hosted a Joint Boards Dinner to thank the combined teams for their diligent work. After a gourmet dinner, we had a chance to gear down and bask in the glow of knowing OFLA had hosted another outstanding joint conference for CSCTFL!

In Appreciation to the OFLA Board

The OFLA Board Members know that on each of our regular board agendas, I repeated the phrase, “Every Now and Again a Really Great Year Comes Along, and This Is Going to Be the YEAR!” As I look back at the events of the year, I know that it was through the dedication, enthusiasm and diligence of the OFLA Board Members that we were able to provide outstanding professional development, guidance and support for our members. We tackled many issues during our meetings with the goal of promoting world language education for our students and support for our members.

Looking to the Future: Continue to Aspire, Motivate, Dedicate and Realize

As my presidential term draws to a close, please know that you have my appreciation for your support and dedication during this year. As I took office, I asked you to aspire, motivate, dedicate and realize what you and OFLA could do for its members. It was through your help and hard work that OFLA was able to provide a wonderful year of professional development, support and networking for its members.

As I step down as president, I look back at this year with wonderful memories of working with this board. I appreciate the time I have spent with you, and I treasure the friendships I have made. There is no other group that could ever compare to you! I look forward to working with you next year to continue our important work.

My sincere thanks and best wishes for a restful summer break that allows you time to renew, refresh and reenergize for the upcoming year!
