Going to the Chapel

judyJudy McCombs, Early Language Learning

My first born, Anna Maria, is getting married in August!  For the better part of a year now we have been planning, searching, organizing, book marking everything and anything having to do with weddings.  I want this day to be special, we have a budget.  I am mindful of what we are spending, though there are things I’ve given in to because they make me smile and I think they will make a difference for this beautiful occasion.  Sometimes my head is spinning with giddy excitement and anticipation! Teacher Education and Licensing Committee Report

marthacMartha Castañeda, Teacher Education and Licensing Committee Chair

As I reflect on the tasks completed by the Teacher Education and Licensing Committee (TELC), I can’t help but notice a trend.  The course of action taken in the past year has created a convergence between two TELC goals: to help Ohio educators build their capacity to prepare students for proficiency in the foreign language and to provide Ohio teacher candidates with the optimal professional development situations.   Continue reading

My Best Teaching Moment

Erica Marie Jergens

When I began my student teaching, I was excited to share my experiences with the French language and teach students about the beautiful French and Francophone culture that exists in 40 different countries all over the world.  However, I was in for a shock. In my limited teaching experience, I had led supplemental instruction courses to college kids who were worried about their grades and who willingly attended the extra study sessions I led. I had never dealt with the studied cool attitude of high school kids and their seeming lack of interest in learning. Continue reading
