Julie Frye, Membership Chair
Lexington High School French teacher
*I am enrolled in OFLA via OEA, and so my OFLA dues are automatically deducted from my paycheck. The renewal date for OFLA members who choose this option is 15 January annually. All other members have a renewal date of 1 September annually (or every 3 years on the same date).
For the first month of 2017, my OFLA membership gave to me… two gifts! One, the auto-renewal of my membership* through OEA payroll deduction. And two, Early-Bird registration for the OFLA Annual Conference!
For the second month of 2017, my OFLA membership gave to me… a voice in the annual executive board elections. AND… more time/opportunity to register for the OFLA Annual Conference.
For the third month of 2017, my OFLA membership gave to me…access to The Cardinal, the members-only digital publication, issued three times per year. AND…the 2017 OFLA Annual Conference, held at the Polaris Hilton Hotel, 30 March-1 April! The theme this year is Strengthen Your Core and you don’t want to miss a minute of it! Remember, sessions are FREE with your paid registration!
For the fourth month of 2017, my OFLA membership gave to me…a whole new energy in my classroom, as I return from the Annual Conference and implement the new strategies I learned from the fabulous workshops and sessions.
For the fifth month of 2017, my OFLA membership gave to me…an e-mail to verify all the contact information of my OFLA member profile, so I can continue to benefit from notifications and reminders. I don’t want to miss any relevant and useful professional development opportunities during the summer months!
For the sixth, seventh and eighth months of 2017, my OFLA membership gave to me… the aforementioned professional development opportunities! Also, during the month of August, members who pay from 1 September (either annually or every 3 years), will begin receiving reminders to renew!
For the ninth, tenth and eleventh months of 2017, my OFLA membership gave to me…a new vision and mission for my language classroom because I took advantage of professional development opportunities like ‘tech tools’, or ‘IPA implementation’, or ‘#AuthRes’, or ‘CI’, or ‘Google Classroom’, or ‘teaching using themes’, to name just a few of the topics we have offered in the past and continue to expand.
For the twelfth month of 2017, my OFLA membership gave to me…the winter issue of The Cardinal and some amazing new ideas and insights to get me through the winter months, in anticipation of the 2018 OFLA Annual Conference. OFLA/OEA members also receive an e-mail reminder that their membership year is coming to an end, and it is time to renew and begin again!
