In the current political landscape, teacher candidates, junior teachers, and experienced teachers must demonstrate knowledge, skills, and dispositions. One can argue the validity of these measures, but the reality is that all constituents need to demonstrate and articulate growth in the classroom. For teacher candidates, one of the indicators used is the edTPA, the Teacher Performance Assessment. The edTPA requires a particular type of writing, a genre of sorts. Continue reading

Still, we seldom hear about the Second Language Acquisition (SLA) behind the IPA. In this newsletter article, I want us to reflect on the underpinnings of each mode of interaction within the IPA. Ohio AATG Fall Conference
The Ohio AATG held its annual fall conference November 1-2, 2013 in Columbus at the Hyatt-Worthington Hotel, with approximately 25 people in attendance. The conference started on Friday afternoon with President Kristina Wassmann leading a discussion of the possible definitions of culture and the different way we may be able to incorporate it in our classes. We watched the AATG webinar, Teaching Culture. Following dinner, the group reconvened to watch the film, Das tapfere Schneiderlein. Continue reading
