TESOL Conference

TESOLPertinent Information

Lillian Acker, Ohio TESOL Liaison

The Ohio TESOL Conference took place on the Ohio State University campus at the OSU Union on November 9-10, 2012. The computer availability of the venue was a great benefit to all. Once again, thanks to the growth of our conference, we had to find a new venue; next year’s conference will be held at the new Hilton Columbus Downtown on November 15-16, 2013. The attendance for 2012 was over 650 and the keynote speaker was our own ODE Educational Consultant with the Lau Resource Center, Dr. Abdinur Mohamud. Dr. Mohamud spoke to us about a Global Perspective to Education as he served as the Minister of Education, Culture and Higher Education to the former Transitional Federal Government of Somalia last year.

Many members of OFLA have requested information about TESOL endorsement; as of now, the following offer graduate courses: Ashland University, Capital University, Cleveland State University, Muskingum University, Nova Southeastern University, Ohio Dominican University, The Ohio State University, Ohio University, Otterbein University, University of Akron, University of Findlay, and Wright State University. Both Akron and Otterbein received federal grants recently to train classroom teachers and get familiar with ways to teach our ELL population.
