I joined about twenty participants to enjoy our annual French immersion weekend held September 21-23 at Mohican State Park. I am sorry to admit that this was the first time I had attended the event; it seems that I had been missing out on a lot of fun all these years!

As the weekenders arrived, we had a soupe estivale prepared by Kathy Lewton and Gretchen Petrie. Merci à vous deux! On Saturday, we hiked, played boules and French games, and feasted on the potluck dinner. Late in the evening, we snacked on s’mores around the campfire. Miam! We were also treated to a traditional French breakfast of céréales, croissants, and pain… along with a few cups of coffee, bien sûr.

Outside of soaking in the sights and sounds of nature, we informally shared best practices from our classrooms. The winners of the various games throughout the weekend won AATF goodies and pieces of realia.

Next year, you should join us September 20-22, 2013, as AATF celebrates their 10th anniversary. We plan to add a few new activities to the schedule. OFLA/CSCTFL Book Club Selection

AATF-Ohio President Pascale Abadie has selected the Haitian writer Dany Laferrière’s book Comment faire l’amour avec un nègre sans se fatiguer. Copies of the book are available online at amazon.com.

The back cover of the novel advertises it as follows: Premier livre de Dany Laferrière, satire féroce des stéréotypes et des clichés racists, Comment faire l’amour avec un nègre sans se fatiguer se présente comme la joyeuse description d’une vie de bohème, version black.
