Pascale Abadie, Associate Professor of French, Wright State University

Screen Shot 2014-10-22 at 8.38.59 PMIt began as a crazy idea during the weekly French conversation club last summer: “Stromae’s coming to the US, this fall. Let’s go see him!” Before long, tickets were bought, hotel rooms reserved, travel plans to Chicago made, and the dream had become a reality. Stromae, the world’s biggest Francophone (French speaking) musician, plays to full houses all over the world, and here was a chance to see him in a small venue in Chicago. Continue reading

¡Las Mariposas Monarcas Se Mueven Mucho!

Jennifer Coppolino, IHM Grade School/Spanish Teacher K-8

“This is the best field trip ever!”  exclaimed one of the third grade boys.  Last May, thirty-five third grade students were able to be naturalists for the day at the Wolf Creek Environmental Center in Medina County. This year, on the first staff day, one of the third grade teachers even approached me to ask if we were still planning to go on the field trip again this year.  I would say it is safe to say she felt the same as the young boy. Letter from the President

TeriW
Teri Wiechart, OFLA President 2013-2014

As the school year winds down, it is always a good time to reflect on the past year and to plan for the next.  This is true for classrooms and for OFLA.  The OFLA Board, under the leadership of Richard Emch, has already begun.  As we look back, we see that there were two things that absorbed the most time for members of the OFLA Board were the Conference and the Regional Professional Development offerings. Roz for OFLA 2011-2012 V2Roz Terek, Immediate Past President

All who attended this year’s conference will agree, I am certain, that we spent an amazing three days together! As the executive officers arrived on Wednesday, the excitement was obvious in all we did. Never before have so many attendees registered for our Thursday workshops, and never before have so many attended the conference. It was truly one of the best I have attended! I would like to thank Teri Wiechart for her hard work in planning the great event, and for changing the scheduling of sessions, workshops and festivities. Continue reading

Advocacy

Have a Great Summer and Stay Connected

sarahshackelfordReminders from Sarah

Sarah Shackelford, Advocacy Chair

One of the best teachers I know recently remarked that the most powerful counsel he could give to any teacher is to continually invest in your own professional development. These days, in addition to joining our professional organizations and attending conferences and special workshops, this also includes following these organizations on listservs and social media. Doing so provides us immediate, free access to ongoing sources of professional development and networking. Continue reading

Professional Development Corner

OFLA Professional Development

Pero (OVFLA)

Martha Pero, Hudson City Schools, Professional Development Chair

Look for future PD from both OFLA and ODE!  We are working together to bring you the best professional development program covering all of your needs!  Kathy Shelton has scheduled several workshops for SLOs and IPAs.  Please check the ODE site for the dates.  OFLA will be scheduling some workdays, free of charge, to develop IPAs and norm grading on the rubric.  These are to be announced.

On another good note, 27 people took advantage of the Ashland graduate credit offered by OFLA PD.  If you need a graduate hour for your certification, we will be offering it once again next year, so plan to attend the OFLA conference and/or the CSCTFL conference to meet the 15 hour face to face contact hours.

Please feel free to offer suggestions for future PD.
